Science Nights at Birkenhead School
Science Nights at Birkenhead School went off with a BANG...
Before the end of term, Year 4 pupils visited the amazing Eureka! Science and Discovery centre in Wallasey.
When they first arrived they visited the Bodies gallery downstairs where they explored a giant interactive digestive system, walked through a pair of lungs and examined a supersized brain. Highlights included the "Fear Door" and an Innovation Lab showcasing medical technologies.
Before lunch, they attended a curriculum linked workshops and show which was called KaleiodoLab which was an interactive theatre experience exploring the science of light, colour, and shadows. It covered how light travels in straight lines, reflection, refraction, how rainbows form, and why we see color. It was very interactive and informative.
After lunch they headed upstairs to visit two more galleries. Homes zone focused on the science within everyday life. They interacted with a giant cat named Luna, used a bathroom "DJ set" to explore sound, and learned how kitchen appliances function.
Finally they spent time in the Nature zone which featured an "Amazing Inventions" shed and a climbing tree. It covered topics like wildlife and climate and included a "Nest" area for viewing wildlife footage.
They had a fantastic day and were beautifully behaved. Well done Year 4!

After a busy and competitive season, our U18 girls finished their campaign at the Cheshire County Finals last week. Facing some of the strongest school teams in the county, the girls showed great determination, teamwork and resilience throughout the afternoon. Against tough opposition, their effort and commitment never wavered, and they represented the school with real pride right to the final whistle.
A special mention goes to our Upper Sixth players, who pulled on the school shirt for the final time. Thank you for your leadership, commitment and the example you have set for the younger players over the years. We wish you all the very best for the future, you will be greatly missed in the hockey programme.
