Earlier in the week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Louise Minchin to Birkenhead School. Louise is not only a renowned broadcaster, journalist, and TV presenter but also an author and endurance athlete—a truly fearless woman!

Our girls in Years 7 to 9 were treated to an interactive and inspiring talk filled with empowering messages. Louise shared her journey in the world of journalism, detailing the wide range of roles available in the field. She emphasized the importance of following one's passion and provided valuable insights into pursuing a career in journalism.

A poignant moment of the talk was when Louise spoke about how she had given up swimming in her teenage years because of body image issues, a decision she now regrets. She urged the students not to give up something they love, highlighting the importance of perseverance and dedication.

Louise also spoke about the fearless women she had met and the intrepid adventures she had undertaken with them. The experiences of these women inspired her to write her book "Fearless," as she felt that women were under represented in sports, both as authors and athletes. Her stories were not only inspiring but also a call to action for young girls to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

At the end of the talk, students had the opportunity to pose their questions to Louise and speak to her one-on-one while having their copies of ‘Fearless’ signed. Louise generously gave out advice and shared hints and tips on how to take the next steps in their own ‘Fearless’ journeys.

This talk forms part of our 'No Limits Series' for students in Seniors. Past guests have included yachtswoman Nikki Henderson and commonwealth boxer Stacey Copeland. Louise's visit continues this tradition of bringing remarkable and inspiring figures to share their experiences and wisdom with our students in the School’s overall ‘Inspiring Talks Series’.
