On Friday 6th October, the Sixth Form had the pleasure of receiving a lecture from Kirsten Stewart, an Old Birkonian, as the latest installment in the Nicholls Lecture Series.

Ms. Stewart kindly told both the staff and students about the fascinating field of food product design. Ms. Stewart is a technical development manager for the company, Brand of Brothers, and as a part of her current role she develops new and exciting flavours and products within the ice cream industry as well as leading conversations with major brands such as Halo Top, Baileys, and many other brands to bring Europe's favourite products to consumers in delightful ice cream form.
During her engaging lecture, Ms. Stewart explained how she went from joining a Marks and Spencer Graduate Scheme to having the opportunity to travel extensively within her job, including going to Italy every year to try authentic gelato and also predicting future trends within the market using social media as a valuable tool.
After the lecture four students, including myself, got the opportunity to have lunch with Ms. Stewart and the Headmaster where we all enjoyed the opportunity to have a further discussion about her role and the industry.
