Birkenhead School Civic Award

Sunday Times Schools Guide 2025 - Independent Secondary School of the Year North West

Birkenhead School Civic Award

The Birkenhead School Civic Award enables the School to celebrate the children’s achievements both inside and outside of school, helping to shape them into well-rounded citizens who understand the importance of community, perseverance, self-reliance, and personal achievement.

Children work towards different levels of the Birkenhead School Civic Award during their time in Prep and they build on the foundations laid in earlier stages. The scheme not only align’s with the School’s values but also enhances the overall educational experience, making learning more holistic and impactful.

The Award is voluntary and is completed as part of the School’s Co-Curricular programme.

Children complete the award outside of their lessons and the scheme is made up of five strands that the children have to complete, document, and have signed off by the appropriate bodies:

1. Local Awareness

2. Self-Reliance

3. Service to Others

4. Personal Achievement in Physical Activities

5. Wide Use of Leisure Time

Birkenhead School Civic Award Ceremony

The children’s achievements are celebrated annually at an Awards Ceremony with the Wirral Mayor. The evening is a wonderful celebration with families are invited to see the children receive the award and displays of the children’s work.
