Nursery and Pre-Prep families have surpassed themselves yet again with their kind and generous donations to help local families in conjunction with Birkenhead charity, Koala North West.

Over the past few weeks, parents with children in our Nursery and Pre-Prep settings have been kindly donating gifts that will be given to local families through the charity, Koala North West.

Families were asked to select a gift tag from one of the trees located outside Nursery and Pre-Prep which offered information on who the gift would be given to. The School has been supporting the charity, which was formerly known as Home Start Wirral, for a number of years and once again we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our parents at this time of year.

On Monday 15th December, members of the Koala North West team called into Nursery to collect the presents. Alison from Koala North West says, “We want to say a big thank you to all the families in Birkenhead School Early Years, you have surpassed our expectations and you will never know how much of a difference you truly make to the families – when their eyes light up as they realise that they can give their children a Christmas is an amazing thing to see. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.”

During the visit children from the Baby Room, Under 2s and Rising 3s all had the opportunity to meet Kodi, the mascot for Koala North West.

Sharon, who works in the Under 2s room, and who has been instrumental in organising the donations each year, commented, “I would like to say a big thank you all of our parents at the School, especially in Early Years, for all of their generous gifts, the food, presents and vouchers. We don’t know the families ourselves but we know that they are very grateful, as are we, for everyone’s generosity and kindness in helping to share the Christmas spirit at this time of year.’

Koala North West is based on Wood Lane in Birkenhead, and exists to provide children and their families with tailored practical and emotional support that improves wellbeing, reduces isolation and supports both children and care-givers to thrive. Further information on the charity can be found online at: https://koalanw.co.uk/.

Sam Mason, Head of Early Years, says, “Once again we are delighted to be supporting Koala North West, we’ve been completely overwhelmed by the generosity of our parents. It makes such a difference to these families that are all based within the local community. Whilst we celebrate Christmas both at home and School, it is good to know that we are giving something back to those who are less fortunate than ourselves and I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated.”

Koala North West is one of a number of charities Birkenhead School is supporting during the Michaelmas Term. Other charitable giving includes financial and food donations for Birkenhead charities: Charles Thompson Mission; Neo Community; and Number Seven CafĂ©. Money is also being raised for the international charity ‘Change a Child’s Life’ through online donations in lieu of retiring collections at the Chapel Services that would ordinarily be taking place at this time of year. Thank you to everyone in our School community who has donated to the charities during the last half-term.
